Katie and Dan’s Beautifully Themed The Barn at Bury Court Wedding
So this is how I came to shoot my first Barn at Bury Court wedding….I first met Katie and Dan at a wedding I photographed several years ago so I was absolutely delighted to be asked to cover their own wedding this summer as their Hampshire wedding photographer. A few weeks ago we had some fun on their engagement photoshoot in Hertfordshire which was great for us to get to know one another beforehand.
The venue for the ceremony and reception was the wonderful Barn at Bury Court. Katie had put together a storybook theme for the reception – it actually brought back memories of all the endless hours we spent reading the likes of Roald Dahl’s Matilda and other books to our own children some years back. She even persuaded one of her relatives to be a Mad Hatter!
We first headed off to Shepperton to capture Katie with her bridesmaids and family for some of the bridal preparations then we made our way to the The Barn to catch some of Dan’s preparations. Katie arrived in an old London black cab that had apparently featured in the Miss Marple TV series and it was a nice touch that the driver was happy to leave the car at The Barn to accommodate some photos later in the day with Dan and Katie together.
It was a very touching ceremony, especially during the exchange of their personal vows and I doubt if there was a dry eye in the room at the time. It was an amusing moment when amidst all the emotion Dan took a break to take a drink. As a documentary wedding photographer I love the fact that Katie could express so many emotions of love over such a short period of time.
We were able to spend a little time together after the speeches and wander around the wonderfully planted gardens for a few photos of Katie and Dan in the early evening light. There was even drama during the cake cutting – the wedding cake was made of layers of different cheeses topped with bride and groom penguins with the ‘bride’ taking a topple during the cake cutting much to Katie’s amusement! I loved this wedding and I absolutely loved being your photographer.
Wishing you both every happiness for the future!
