Although Katie and Dan had booked me as their photographer for their Hampshire summer wedding at The Barn at Bury Court wedding over a year ago their work commitments meant that we were only able to get together for an engagement photoshoot a few weeks before their big day. We decided to meet up in a garden in Loudwater and with a lightly wooded backdrop and some glorious weather we couldn’t ask for more.
Although Katie was very relaxed, very few people love being placed in front of a camera so this was a great opportunity to build confidence and trust between all of us and have a little fun whilst trying a few different ideas. Just sharing the odd photo with a couple helps enormously and within 10 minutes or so we were all in the groove. There is no doubt in my mind that getting together like this makes it so much easier when it really matters so no matter how anxious you might be at the beginning you’ll soon feel so much more relaxed and confident by the end of the session. As a wedding photographer you end up spending more time around the couple than almost anyone else on their wedding day so the rapport we build up on the pre-wedding shoot certainly pays dividends on the day.
I can’t wait to share the blog post from Katie and Dan’s beautiful wedding in a few days time so come back soon and take a look – I’ll be sharing a lot of their memories.

An engagement photoshoot is a great way for you to feel comfortable in front of the camera and to get to know your photographer ahead of your wedding day. Of course, I can also find out more about you too and catch up on how your wedding plans are coming together! After all, it’s usually the first time that a couple will have spent time with a professional photographer. It always amazes me to see the natural inhibitions that people have disappear after I show them a few of the shots on the back of the camera. For another example on the blog, take a look at Nandini and Josh’s London engagement photoshoot in London.
